PVC, TPE, braided nylon or silicone: choosing the right cable jacket

Material choice affects cost, flexibility, feel, durability and market positioning.

PVC: stable and cost efficient

PVC is widely available and suitable for standard charging, data and network cables. Formulation must still be selected for flexibility, temperature and target-market compliance.

TPE: flexible consumer feel

TPE supports a softer touch and broad color options. It is common in branded consumer accessories where flexibility and appearance matter.

Braided nylon: wear resistance and visual differentiation

Braiding improves abrasion resistance and premium appearance, but the complete construction still needs flex testing and controlled termination design.

Silicone and LSZH

Silicone is useful for soft-touch and low-temperature flexibility. LSZH is selected where smoke and halogen requirements matter. Both require application-specific verification.

Selection rule

Choose material from the application, environment, desired feel, compliance and cost target — not from appearance alone.
